Madison Public Library &  COVID 19

Madison, SD— Madison Public Library is following guidance from City of Madison SD officials in our response to COVID-19.   In order to keep our customers and staff safe, Madison Public Library will be closed to public access from Monday, March 16 through Tuesday, March 31st.


All programs, meeting room bookings, are cancelled during this time. At the end of this period, the library will reassess whether to continue this cancellation period. Interlibrary loan services have also been suspended indefinitely.


All due dates are extended through Friday, April 3rd. 

Staff will be available for questions by phone or email,

Monday – Thursday 10a.m. - 6 p.m.

Friday – Saturday 10a.m. - 5p.m.


The library is offering Curbside Pick Up 

What does this mean?  Call the library 605-256-7525, email us, or place holds via our catalog to request your items and arrange a time for pick up during staffed hours.


Some customers have asked if we are disinfecting library materials that have been checked out or used in-house. As of this writing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) does not recommend cleaning and disinfecting these items.

Take steps to protect yourself

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after you have been in a public space, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover both hands and rub together until they feel dry.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  • Practice "social distancing." Put distance between yourself and other people.
