Library Care in Action: Safety First

Our mission is to support and enrich the lives of individuals, families, and the community. To do this well, we continuously look for ways to improve our services and ensure a safe, welcoming space for all.

Part of that responsibility is caring for our physical collections, including the basement storage. While we understand and value memories connected to books and physical materials, some items in our basement have, unfortunately, become unsafe over time. When this happens, they cannot be safely donated or recycled. It’s important we remove them to protect staff.

On Thursday, September 25, you may notice a dumpster outside the library. Don’t worry; it’s just part of this one-day cleanup project. With the help of DSU volunteers, we’ll carefully remove items from the basement that are no longer safe.

We take this process seriously and appreciate your trust as we continue to care for our library and keep it a safe, welcoming place for everyone.
